Key Concepts in IB Geography

Process
Processes are human or physical mechanisms of change, such as migration or weathering. They operate over varying timescales and interact to produce linear, circular and complex systems.
Power
Power is the ability to influence and affect change or equilibrium at different scales. It can be vested in citizens, governments and institutions, and is also expressed through powerful physical processes.
Possibility
Possibilities are alternative events, futures and outcomes that geographers can model, project or predict with varying certainty, including questions of sustainability, resilience and adaptation.
Scale & spatial interactions
Scale has temporal and spatial dimensions. Spatial interactions connect places and processes, helping students move between local, national and global perspectives.
